Talks and School Visits

ONLINE SCHOOL VISITS!!!

FROM MIMI'S DESK TO YOUR STUDENTS

Online talks and visits are chatty, intimate ways of getting to see the life of a practicing writer. Mimi is a university lecture and has fascinating presentations and inspiring workshop sheets that can go along with her visit - value for the school and engagement for the student - it can make a real intervention in the reading and writing life of a group of young people. Mimi is surprisingly funny and irreverent and will field all kinds of questions about her books and about the writing life.

Mimi Thebo LOVES going into schools and successfully communicates with young people of all ages.

She gives 'certified inspirational' talks about the importance of reading for pleasure that use cutting-edge research in neuropsychology, sociology and economics - all in language appropriate for the age she's addressing. Librarians report an enormous take up in their services after Mimi's talks. She also talks about the joy of a life involved in reading and writing,  about animals and climate change.  She is happy to talk to very large groups in order to spread the value of a visit throughout a school.

Mimi talks best to years 5-10 and will tailor her talk to the needs of your students. She can also visit Year 2s, using the themes of Drawing Together.

Mimi works with up to 32 young people in workshops.

Mimi can also work with a classroom of children to create a big communal poem - this has been successful on World Poetry Day or to celebrate an occasion or event.

'Thank you so very much for coming to Blundell’s today and sharing your extraordinary talent with our pupils. Not only were they fascinated to hear of your writing and the tales that go with, but the life’s lessons made an enormous impact too. As a department, we are so grateful that you promoted reading, as this is an area that we are striving to build a culture of, within the school...The pupils have been raving about you all day and, as I said, your books went flying out of the library.' Blundell's School

'I am a science teacher, yet I was so gripped by Mimi's assembly last week...truly inspiring. Thank you.'  Stonehenge School

'Just wanted to drop you a line to say a huge thank you for what proved to be an inspirational visit last Friday.  Having returned to work today I have been inundated by staff and students telling me how fantastic your visit was.  In particular, the English staff are buzzing and commented on how interesting, engaging, inspiring and creative you are.  All said that you showed genuine pleasure in being here and connected with the students really well.'
